Membership Eligibility & Qualifications:

At BHHBA, membership is more than just a title—it’s a commitment to professionalism, integrity, and community trust. That’s why we have clear qualifications to ensure our members uphold the highest standards in the industry. Membership eligibility is based on NAHB and BHHBA guidelines and is subject to review and approval by the Board of Directors.

2025 MEMBERSHIP RATES: Builder or Associate $500 per year / Affiliate $100 per year

Builder Member

The following criteria must be met by applicants seeking a BUILDER membership: 

1) Hold valid licenses and permits for your trade or profession, and fulfill any continuing education necessary to retain them 2) Actively engaged in the industry and positioned to continue pulling building permits 3) Maintain credibility and good standing through honest, ethical and responsible business conduct 4) Hold appropriate general liability insurance coverage, including workers' compensation (if applicable) 5) Agree to abide by the Code of Ethics for active members. 6) Qualify as one of the categories listed below.

Businesses or individuals who are directly involved in the construction and development of residential or commercial buildings may qualify as Builder Members. This includes:

  • Single-Family Home Builders: Spec/Tract Builders, General Contractors, Custom Home Builders

  • Multifamily Residential Builders & Developers: Multifamily Building (Condo/Co-op units), Multifamily Building/Ownership (Rental Units), Multifamily General Contractors

  • Remodelers - Single & Multifamily: Residential & Commercial Remodeling Contractors (additions, renovations, tenant improvements, upgrades etc.)

  • Commercial Builders & Contractors: Commercial Building & Contracting for personal use or investment and/or for clients

  • Land Developers: Professionals engaged in land acquisition, zoning, and infrastructure for residential or commercial use

  • Manufacturers of Off-Site Homes: Modular, Log, Panelized home manufacturers

  • Specialty Trade Professionals (Conditional):

    • Electricians, plumbers, carpenters, masons, landscapers, excavators, HVAC professionals, and similar trades who pull primary building permits in their own name for construction-related work may qualify for Builder Membership. (Note: Those who work solely as subcontractors and do not pull permits typically qualify as Associate Members.)

    Associate Member

    The following criteria must be met by applicants seeking an ASSOCIATE membership: 

    1) Hold valid licenses and permits for your trade or profession, and fulfill any continuing education necessary to retain them (if applicable) 2) Maintain credibility and good standing through honest, ethical and responsible business conduct 4) Hold appropriate general liability insurance coverage, including workers' compensation (if applicable) 5) Agree to abide by the Code of Ethics for active members. 6) Provide a product, service, or support function to those within the building industry. 

    The following professions qualify as ASSOCIATE MEMBERS - other professions may qualify as well:

    Subcontractors & Specialty Trade Contractors (who do NOT pull permits - if you pull permits you qualify as a BUILDER member): Carpentry, Electrical, Masonry, Stone Work, Tile Setting & Plastering, Landscaping, Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning, Roofing, Siding, and Sheet Metal Work, Painting and Paper Hanging, Floor Laying and other Floor Work, Concrete, Excavation

    Supportive Businesses & Services: Wholesale Dealers/Distributors, Appliances, Building Materials/Lumber, Floor Coverings, Paint/Wall Coverings, Retail Dealers/Distributors, Accounting, Architecture, Utilities, Engineering, Legal Services, Real Estate, Marketing, Advertising/Public Relations, Insurance Companies, Title Companies, Computer Products & Services, Property Management, Land Surveyor, Security Systems, Banks & Lenders, Assessors, Vehicle Dealerships, Vehicle Detailing, Cleaning/Housekeeping Services, Lawn Services, Pest Control, Hotels, Event Venues, Restaurants/Catering,  Promotional Products and many other professions and businesses may also qualify as an Associate member.

    Affiliate Member

    Affiliate memberships allow employees or partners of current BUILDER or ASSOCIATE members to access membership benefits at a reduced rate, expanding their opportunities for networking, training, and professional engagement.

    The following criteria must be met by applicants seeking an AFFILIATE membership: 

    1) Hold valid licenses and permits for your trade or profession, and fulfill any continuing education necessary to retain them (if applicable) 2) Maintain credibility and good standing through honest, ethical and responsible business conduct 4) Hold appropriate general liability insurance coverage, including workers' compensation (if applicable) 5) Agree to abide by the Code of Ethics for active members. 6) Provide a product, service, or support function to those within the building industry. 7) Be an employee of a current BUILDER or ASSOCIATE member.
